A Recipe for Success: Meeting with a Registered Dietitian

By Molly Tevis, RDN, LD

Today, fad diets are popping up everywhere: social media, TV, google, and close friends or family. These diets may sound like the quick ticket to weight loss or optimal health but they rarely work for very long, if at all. As a registered dietitian nutritionist, my role is to partner with you in developing a safe and realistic eating plan that you can stick with for the long haul. To guide and motivate you toward your goals, I use evidence based dietary recommendations and the last thing you'll get is one-size-fits-all diet advice. After learning about your medical health history, food preferences, eating and exercise habits, and total wellbeing, we make a plan and prioritize. If nutrition education and meal planning is needed, we will be sure to incorporate that into our time together. If you purchase a monthly package which includes follow-up visits, we will reflect and focus on maintenance and monitoring of your progress since our initial meeting. We can adjust and redirect as needed to help succeed!

My goal is to work with you and for you! We will work together to set goals that are practical and achievable just for you and your lifestyle.

You may be wondering what the difference is between a registered dietitian nutritionist and a nutritionist or health coach. When you meet with a RDN, you get the highest level of nutritional counseling and education. Anyone can call themselves a nutritionist, but only a registered dietitian (RD) or registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) has completed multiple layers of education and training established by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics. In addition to holding a minimum of a bachelor's degree, an RD or RDN must fulfill a specially designed, accredited nutrition curriculum, complete an extensive supervised program of practice and pass a rigorous registration exam. Registered dietitians are also licensed by the board of medicine alongside physical therapists, physicians, and various high level allied health professionals. We are required to maintain our registration and licensure with continuing
education hours ensuring we are always update with the latest science based information and best practices.

I am passionate about supporting clients in their nutrition journeys, whether that be a basic nutrition tune up or a complete diet overhaul. To best support you, I come to the table with an open mind and do not have a set program or curriculum you must follow. This is about YOU! This is your next step in being your best self!
